Dan Humphrey

Daniel Randolph “Dan” Humphrey es un personaje ficticio de las series de libros bestseller Gossip Girl. Es interpretado por Penn Badgley en la serie de televisión.

Dan “Lonely Boy” Humphrey es el hijo del rockero Rufus Humphrey, y es el hermano mayor de Jenny Humphrey. Su mejor amiga es Vanessa Abrams, de quien estaba enamorado un año antes del episodio piloto de Gossip Girl. Dan es un poeta y asiste al St. Jude’s School para varones. Ha deseado a Serena van der Woodsen desde una fiesta de cuando ellos tenían quince años, y ella fue la unica que había sido amable con él. Tiene un cierto disgusto por la mejor amiga de Serena, Blair Waldorf, aunque, parece haberse ablandado con ella desde su sincera charla en “Bad News Blair”. Dan y su familia residen en Williamsburg, Brooklyn, y desea ingresar a Dartmouth College.

Temporada 1

Su madre vive lejos de casa, en Hudson, trabajando como artista. Se encuentra con dificultades financieras comparado con sus adinerados compañeros en St. Jude’s.

Dan fue uno de los primeros en ver a Serena de regreso en persona. Accidentalmente se topó con ella haciendola caer y esparcir el contenido de su cartera, dejando ella su celular. En un intento de volver a verla, regresa el celular al The New York Palace Hotel donde ella vive. Se encuentra con Serena allí y termina obteniendo una cita con ella, así no tiene que asistir a la fiesta “kiss on the Lips” que Blair había organizado. Tienen una turbulenta primer cita, yendo al concierto de su padre. La cita termina antes porque el recibe un mensaje de texto de Jenny diciendo que necesitaba ayuda en la fiesta. Serena ayuda a Jenny y la salva de Chuck Bass. Dan se siente muy avergonzado después de esto, ya que al final de la cita él sólo la saluda moviendo su mano desde un taxi. Serena y él terminan saliendo otra vez, pero la deja porque Blair lo cuenta acerca de Serena y Nate y su noche juntos cuando Nate y Blair eran pareja. Ellos se reconcilian y se convierten en una constante fuente de atención.

En el Ivy Mixer, Blair le cuenta a la escuela entera y a los Ivy scouts que Serena es una paciente del Ostroff Centre, presuntamente por alcoholismo. Serena entonces sube al escenario y miente para proteger a al paciente real: su hermano. Dan está sorprendido por el aparente problema de Serena, especialmente después de que ella parecer hacer un real ezfuerzo de cambiar de su pasado fiestero. Sin embargo, Jenny revela que Eric es el paciente actual, lo cual causa que Dan respete a Serena por proteger a su familia diciendole a ella que fue “cool” lo que hizo en el escenario. Este evento en realidad fortalece su relación, en lgar de debilitarla como lo deseaba Blair.

Aunque, detrás de escenas, la mejor amiga de la infancia de Dan, Vanessa se encuentra allí, quien está claramente celosa de serena y muy enamorada de Dan. Él es ajeno a esto. A pesar de la clara preferencia de Dan por Serena, ella no puede evitar sentir envidia de lo cercano que es Dan con Vanessa, tanto como cuando Dan le dice a Vanessa que su madre volvió a casa, mientras que Serena se entera de esto por Vanessa en ves de Dan.

Cuando se entera a través del sitio de Gossip Girl que Serena fue vista comprando pruebas de embarazo se enloquece al saber que el hijo podría ser de él, ya que él y Serena ya estuvieron juntos. Su padre ve esto también y está muy enojado de que su hijo pueda convertirse en un padre adolescente. Dan explica que se quedará junto a Serena no importa lo que haga, porque la ama. Le dice esto a Serena, quien le dice que no va a tener un hijo. Más tarde, él le dice que la ama y ella responde con un “bueno”, que no era la respuesta que él estaba buscando. Luego le pregunta por qué la amaba y él le dice una lista que hizo con las razones. Ella le cree y le dice que lo ama también, pero que se tiene que ir porque tiene que ayudar a Blair. Cuando él le pregunta por qué, ella le contesta “una de las tantas razones por las que me amas”.

Cuando Georgina arriva al Upper East Side, con la intención de hacer de la vida de Serena un infierno, consigue conocer a Dan a las espaldas de Serena, pretendiendo ser “Sarah” y accidentalmente a proposito dejando a su perro escaparse de su correa en el parque, dandole una excusa para hablar con Dan. Es visto luego que Dan y Vanessa han tomado a “Sarah” bajo sus alas ya que creen que es una nueva chica al Upper East Side que no conoce mucho.

Eventualmente, Dan rompe con Serena, porque cree que ella se acostó con alguien más y está cansado de que ella le esconda secretos. Unas horas después de romper con Serena, besa a Georgina, creyendo que ella es una desesperanzada chica que está huyendo de su psicotico ex-novio. Poco después, Dan se convence de que Georgina le está mintiendo al Serena contarle la verdad. ël y Blair se las arreglan para engañar a Georgina al hacerla pensar que Dan quiere encontrarse con ella. El plan es hacer que Georgina se encuentre con sus padres y que la hagan entrar a un campamento reformatorio. Dan y Serena reavivan lo que queda de su relación antes de que Dan la termine enteramente. Es últimamente visto pasando tiempo con Vanessa durante el comienzo de las vacaciones de verano.

Temporada 2

De acuerdo con Gossip Girl, durante el verano Dan fue desde “Lonely Boy a Playboy”. Dan se ocupo citas continuas durante todo el verano, con Serena todavía en su cabeza. Debido a las complicaciones emocionales de dan, no puede terminar un ensayo que tenía que entregar. Esto termina en él siendo despedido por su falta de compromiso. Al ser despedido de su trabajo de verano, se dirige hacía The Hamptons después de darse cuenta de que extrañaba a Serena. Espera que viendo a Serena se dé cuenta de que tomaron la desición correcta y puede seguir adelante.

Llega a los Hamptons, a la fiesta anual White Party, para encontrar a Serena y a Nate Archibald en un apasionado beso. Esto revela sus verdaderos sentimientos por Serena ya que muestra un obvio enojo por el “engaño” de Serena. Ella trata de convenserlo de que besó a Nate para darle celos a su novia (una mujer casada y mayor quien también le estaba pagando por estar con ella). Dan se va, cuando es confrontado por un par de chicas con las que salió durante el verano. Las chicas, habiendo descubierto de sus relaciones con Dan, le tiran sus tragos a Dan y se van. Siendo atrapado por Serena por su hipocresía, Dan y Serena entran a la casa para hablar. Deciden verle más tarde en la playa, donde pasan la noche juntos.

La mañana siguiente, Serena y Dan deciden posponer cualquier discusión acerca de su relación hasta que vuelvan a la ciudad. Después de unas confusiones acerca de quien iba a tomar el cole o el tren, ambos terminaron tomando el cole hacia la ciudad. Esto crea tensión entre los dos, y mientras Serena se levanta para usar el baño del cole, se tropieza y cae sobre Dan. Levanta a Dan y los dos se van al baño a “jugar”.She pulls up Dan and the two go into the bathroom to “fool around”. Los dos deciden mantener su reavivada relación en secreto hasta que estuvieran seguros de sí mismos. De regreso a la ciudad en la fiesta de “Bienvenidos de Regreso” de Blair, Nate descubre a los dos en un abrazo, revelando públicamente que su relación está “de nuevo”.

En “The Dark Night” durante el apagón general de la ciudad, Dan y Serena hablar de sus problemas cuando ambos están atrapados en un ascensor. Después de una larga charla (y un poco de discusión), se dan cuenta de que siguen teniendo la misma pelea, y se separan.

Durante su regreso a la escuela, Serena y Dan son amigos ahora, hasta que él conoce a una estudiante de transferencia llamada Amanda Lasher. Comparten los mismos intereses y tienen una química perfecta. Blair trata de manternerlos separados, haciendola una de sus seguidoras así Serena no tiene que sufrir viendolos juntos y tampoco perder la competencia de volver a ponerse en pareja. Serena conoce a Amanda y casi queda como una estupida ella misma. Blair la fuerza a reunirse con ellas después para el almuerzo. Dan, pensando que Serena está tratando de separarlo de Amanda, iirita a Serena que estaba razonando con Dan por qué esto sucedía, diciendole que ella era la que la habia forzado a que almorzaran juntas. Dan and Amanda’s relationship goes public much to Serena’s irritation. Serena then invites Dan and Amanda to go out later that night which turns into as disaster as Dan and Amanda continue to make her feel out of place. Isabel and Penelope, after witnessing Dan go out with Amanda that led to the relationship getting public, offers Serena several suitors, one in particular is a Dalton lacrosse team captain. Serena’s new suitor fails to impress Dan. Dan thinks that Serena used the lacrosse team to rub it into his face. Later on, Penelope ruins Amanda’s hair with a little help from Chuck. Dan runs to Amanda’s aid who brushes him off saying that she no longer wants to see him. Dan gets into an argument with Serena and leaves. The next day, he is shunned because of Serena’s rise to Queen Bee status.

Dan’s recommendation from Noah Shapiro, a writer, leads him to find new inspiration in the form of Chuck Bass. Noah suggests he use Chuck to fuel a new story. Dan does so and loses his shoes in the process. He ends up creating the character of ‘Charlie Trout’, a character that impresses Noah and asks him to find out what makes him tick. That night, Chuck mistakes a woman of being a prostitute and nearly gets punched until Dan defends him. The two end up in jail and Chuck confesses that he thinks his father hates him because he thinks he killed his mother at Chuck’s birth. Chuck gets out a jail with some help from his lawyers and discovers Dan’s reason as to why he was hanging out with him. Chuck gets angry at Dan and leaves him, saying that he lied about his mother’s death and that she died in the Andes in a plane accident. Dan calls Noah Shapiro who bails him out. Dan confesses that he thinks it’s wrong to exploit people for art and that he’d rather be safe. The two part ways and in bad terms.

During a visit to Yale, Dan’s recommendation for Yale admission goes awry with his recommendations as his only acceptance came from J.L. Hall. Jeremiah Harris and Noah Shapiro likely declined to write for Dan’s recommendation. The Dean of Admissions suggests that he find someone to read his work. Dan then finds out Nate used his name to get into a fling with Jordan, a co-ed girl who eventually helps Dan get his work to other literature professors. Dan is stripped of his clothes and tied to a statue by members of the Skull & Bones after Chuck fools them into thinking he is Nate. Chuck’s revenge on Dan then backfires on Chuck who loses Nate as a friend after Nate finds out about what he did to Dan.

Dan and Nate begin a friendship much to Chuck’s chagrin. During an invite to play soccer, Dan tries to visit Nate at his house and finds out about Nate’s financial situation. Nate has been squatting in his own house that got seized amongst other property of the Archibalds. Dan invites Nate to a family dinner and tells Nate that he knows about Nate squatting in his own house. Nate leaves angry. Rufus talks to Dan and tells him that Nate needs help even if he doesn’t want it, seeing as Nate has no one to turn to for help. Dan finds Serena outside Nate’s house and repair their relationship. The two become friends. Dan convinces Nate, who moves in after his house got seized.

With Blair’s situation with Chuck now out of hand, Serena gets Dan to help Blair and tells her that wearing him down would help her situation. Later on, he continues to help Blair by telling her that she should intercept him at home. With Blair desperate, he tells Blair that she should take a risk and say those ’3 words, 8 letters’ anyway. During Aaron’s opening at Rufus’ gallery, Vanessa confesses that Blair and Chuck used her in one of their sick games. Dan ruins Blair’s opportunity to tell Chuck that she loves him and tells Serena what happened. He said that the two were bound to break up eventually and that what they did to Vanessa was sick. Serena says that Vanessa’s matter is different and that Chuck and Blair do love each other. He later apologizes to Serena and get into an honest conversation. Serena confesses her feelings for Aaron and Dan gives her his blessing to date other people.

Aaron and Serena start to date each other while Dan realizes that he still has feelings for Serena. Aaron has been concerned that Serena leans emotionally more on Dan than him. He asks her to come with him to Buenos Aires for Christmas. Serena asks Dan for his opinion, and he tells her to go. At Eleanor’s wedding however, Dan confronts Serena about his feelings for her. Because she knows about her mother and Rufus’ relationship, and because she has already said yes to Aaron, Serena turns Dan down and goes ahead with Aaron’s trip. Serena breaks up with Aaron during the holiday and Dan and Serena meet with each other and they both decide there are better off back together. Dan soon learns he shares a sibling brother with Serena and becomes ridden with guilt when Rufus asks him to let Lily tell Serena the news.

Serena and Dan attempt to return to normal, but find this difficult with Lily and Rufus, who have decided to go public with their relationship. Dan, and Serena both get acceptance letters to Yale but Serena decides that Yale isn’t for her and applies to Brown and gives her spot to Blair who was wait-listed. A new teacher named Ms. Carr teaches at Constance Billard and there is an obvious attraction between them. Blair is so willing to get back at Ms. Carr for giving her a B on a paper that she sends in a rumor to Gossip girl concerning a secret relationship going on between Dan and Ms. Carr. Serena herself is becoming suspicious when she sees Dan and Ms. Carr discussing Dan’s paper together but believes Dan when he says nothing is going on between the two of them. Serena then sees Dan and Ms. Carr in a coffee shop together. She cannot hear what they are saying but in fact Dan is only comforting Ms. Carr who is in tears about the slanderous teacher-student relationship rumor. Serena captures a photo of Dan touching Ms. Carr’s face in an intimate way and shares the photo with Blair although she has doubts about the authenticity of the situation.

Blair enters a parent-teacher meeting at Constance Billard and presents the incriminating photo at hand. Dan explains to Serena nothing happened between him and Ms. Carr but it is too late. Ms. Carr is fired. Serena and Dan’s relationship hits another dead end when things become too much for them to take. First their parents start dating, then they find out they shared a half brother together, and now the mess of the rumor.

Serena goes to apologize to Ms. Carr while admitting regretfully that she was the one who gave the photo to Blair. Later Dan visits Ms. Carr and starts to apologize for how things went down but then she kisses him. Dan, at first, is surprised at her actions. Ms. Carr points out that she doesn’t teach at Constance anymore so there is no student-teacher relationship. So Dan obliges and they have sex in the dark of the room. He Is also called the Ultimate Insider By Gossip Girl In episode “Goodbye Gossip girl”.

Temporada 3

Dan joins Blair, Vanessa and Georgina at NYU. He has a romantic relationship with Georgina Sparks, which Serena finds out about. By the marriage of his father to Lily Van Der Woodsen, he becomes rich and a conflict arises with his longtime friend Vanessa, who accuses him that he changed because of his new-found wealth. As months have gone by, a new face arrived to NYU and Dan has his eyes all over her. Her name is Olivia Burke, a famous actress, who wants a normal life for once. She met Dan and they developed crushes on each other and now, they are officially a couple. Before Olivia was going to leave for New York to film a movie, Dan, after which, discovers he is developing feelings for Vanessa.
